Last week, our Princess Katherine had an unannounced trip to town with her husband. Despite being one of the most famous women in the world, the Princess of Wales was once mistaken for one of Prince William’s staff, but she had a shocking response to the mix-up.
It happened several years ago when the couple were visiting the Sh Hall care home in Cardiff. The royal pair got more than they bargained for when they were introduced to resident Joan Drew Smith. The outspoken resident pointed at Katherine and asked William, “Is that your assistant?”
But Katherine handled the situation with a deft touch, laughing and saying to William, “Well, I am your assistant! I have been for a long time.”
Although the Waleses are currently taking a break from royal duties for the princess’s chemotherapy treatment, when they resume their public engagements, their every move will be followed by photographers. This attention has made them one of the most instantly recognizable couples in the world.
On the other side, when it comes to their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, who are being brought up away from Buckingham Palace—they are just like normal kids behind the scenes. The world doesn’t get to see how ordinary things are at home. Katherine and William are raising happy, well-adjusted kids who have their cheeky sides but are, for the most part, well-behaved.
George and Charlotte are very close, while Louis is often the instigator. George and Charlotte understand that their role is to teach Louis right from wrong, but George still thinks Louis gets away with more bad behavior than he ever did. Their mother, who grew up outside of the royal fold, wants to raise her kids away from the spotlight.
It would surprise many to see how ordinary things are at home. The children help with laying the table, clearing their plates after meals, and even tidying up. There is no preferential treatment, and despite their busy schedules, Katherine and William make time to pick up their kids from school.
Known for her elegant style and meaningful fashion choices, Princess Katherine opted for pieces with deep significance during her emotional visit to Southport. She wore her Kiki McDonough gold fern drop earrings, a piece she has owned for years and often wears during significant moments. The fern symbolizes endurance, resilience, and new beginnings—a fitting choice for a day representing hope and strength as she and William stood by the grieving community.
What many royal watchers also noticed was that Katherine was missing one of her most iconic accessories—her sapphire and diamond engagement ring. The ring, which previously belonged to Princess Diana, has long been a staple of her public appearances. Yet in recent months, the princess has been seen without it on several occasions, sparking curiosity about the reasons behind this decision.
Instead, Katherine wore a striking multicolored eternity band, featuring alternating light and dark gemstones. Experts suggest that the stones in the band could be linked to her children, with their birthstones—rubies, emeralds, and diamonds—aligning with the colors in the ring. It wouldn’t be surprising if the gems in the new ring are linked to George, Charlotte, and Louis.
The eternity band wasn’t the only significant piece of jewelry Katherine chose for the day. She also stacked her Welsh gold wedding band, a white gold and diamond Nushka ring, and what appeared to be another diamond band. These thoughtful jewelry choices, especially in the absence of her engagement ring, suggest that her selections may reflect personal milestones or a deeper connection to her family during this period.
